Yes, it works! As you can see, you can change der drivetrain from your Kangoo 4x4 into the X-Trail casing.
You also need a few oil seals, 2 self locking nuts, a new sleeve between both drivetrain bearings, perhaps new shims to adjust the drivertrain and optional new bearings (I would change them).

Further you need special tools (see also "Koffer" in this thread).
